She works with individuals, companies and organizations that want to enhance their performance for increased competence, confidence, productivity and profits. As the 1994-95 International President of Toastmasters International, Pauline reached her first pinnacle of leadership in the leadership skills building business. The second woman to hold that position in the organization’s history, she believes she has more leadership pinnacles to reach. Saturday, May 14 – 8:45 – 9:10 AM Servant leaders change the world. Perhaps they are true servants in doing that, however, do people shy away from calling them a servant leader and serving as one because of the name. Let’s consider the importance and value of servant leadership and why everyone should aspire to be a servant leader. Sunday, May 15 – 8:30 – 9:15 AM Keynote Can it be true? Yes, there is a formula for success in leadership. It’s not algebra nor is it trigonometry. It’s a simple formula for the actions and behaviors needed to succeed as a leader. Sunday, May 25 – 10:15 – 2:15 Educational Session – 2 hours Successful leaders light their own leadership fire and the leadership fire of others. Learn how to liht your leadership fire and the difference it makes in building others and reaching your goals in your areas of responsibility for the District and Toastmasters and most importantly to the members you serve. Breakout SpeakersSam Newton, ACG, ALB Your Toastmasters journey has prepared you to be a better leader and communicator. What are you doing to leverage those skills for your club, origination, and spread your personal message? Your story is currency in the 21st century, how and where you tell it will determine your successes in growing your influence and leadership. District 23’s Toastmaster of the Year for 2013 will help us use the tools we have and show us where and how to use them to grow our influence. A thirty year veteran of broadcast media, Sam uses his experiences to motivate, teach, and coach people to find their “story” and use it to build a better life, organization, and purpose. Learn how to design a strategy that builds confidence, sells yourself, and allows you to communicate effectively to reach maximum balance and performance. Merv Jersak Finish this sentence: “It’s No Rumor You Need Humor to _______ ________ _______”. Do you find yourself drawn to leaders with senses of humor? Do you ever say to yourself, “I wish I was as funny as she is”, or “That’s hilarious – why can’t I think of things like that”? Are you avoiding the “Humorously Speaking” manual because “you’re just not that funny”? As a 34 year veteran of the most humorless of professions, Project Management (sorry, Accountants and Engineers), Merv found himself asking these exact same questions. And he did something about it – he learned how to add humor-ship to his leadership. In this session you will learn that you don’t have to be funny to be humorous, that humor is an important addition to your leadership skills, and that there are some humor techniques that you can begin using immediately. Bring pen, paper, and a receptive mind to learn several ways to finish the sentence: “It’s No Rumor You Need Humor to _______ ________ _______”. Bizia Greene “Polished Professionals” An interactive etiquette presentation on tools for success. Self presentation, rules of introduction and networking know-how will be covered. Etiquette consultant Bizia Greene has been teaching fun and engaging classes for ten years through her Etiquette School of Santa Fe. She writes the Etiquette Rules! column for the Santa Fe New Mexican and is a frequent radio and television guest. Jerri Glover “It Is, Sometimes, How You Start” What happens once your club recruits a new member? Do they get lost in a pool of acronyms, policies, procedures and club culture? How do you make sure that they are getting what they need and receiving the most benefit from their Toastmaster experience? Jerri Glover will share tips for developing a strong New Member Orientation and Mentor Program. Outstanding orientations and solid mentorship will create a program to help the new member reach their goals and foster their desire to be a part of Toastmasters and your club for years to come. Tim Evans “Evaluate to Motivate and Win” The ability to provide positive and helpful evaluations can be challenging. Both new and experienced Toastmasters struggle with balancing critique with encouragement. Sometimes it is even difficult to offer a suggestion for improvement. Tim Evans has a developed tool to help Toastmasters at any level to gather and organize information so that you can present an evaluation that will not only motivate the speaker, but will also help you win evaluation awards. Tim Evans has taken his evaluation skills to three district competitions placing third in one and first in the other two, most recently at the District 23 Fall Conference. His method for evaluating has been used by others to improve their skills and win their own competitions. Steven A. Chavira “Busting Thru the Road Blocks of Life!” We all have busy lives and crazy, hectic jobs! Americans are constantly faced with things that are detrimental to our success! The key to success lies not in limiting the barriers that are placed on our path but instead by learning to bust thru the road blocks! These road blocks can be “monumental” such as being fired, unexpectedly, from a great job or “Trivial” by being asked to speak at your Toastmasters meeting because the schedule speaker didn’t show up. No matter what the roadblock is, it is important to understand your own abilities, assess the situation and move forward with the knowledge that roadblocks are only tests of character and when they are “re-framed” with a new sense of determination… the results can be extraordinary! Janet Tarr “Appearances Matter” In thirty seconds, people form different impressions based almost entirely on what they see – your appearance. Your image transmits a message about you all day every day. There is no erase button. As “casual days” show up more and more in the corporate world, employers are scheduling seminars to teach employees the professional way to dress casually. As an Image Consultant, Janet Tarr knows firsthand that appearances matter in the corporate world. For many years, she has conducted “dress for success” seminars for small and large corporations. Robert and Jana Barnill “Speaking With IMPACT” Would you like to be a better speaker? Is it your dream to one day compete in the World Championship of Public Speaking? What about becoming a professional speaker? If you answered yes to any of those then you must learn how to Speak with IMPACT. That includes understanding the level of desire needed, how to choose a topic, how to prepare and learn your speech, how to dress, raise your confidence and take charge of the podium. Between the two, Robert and Jana Barnhill have won 55 speech contest trophies, two of those being at the finals of the World Championship of Public Speaking. They are the only couple in Toastmasters International to have both earned the Accredited Speaker designation. In this session they will share their insight on how you can take your speaking to a champion, professional level. Jenny Zappone “Shh- It’s No Secret: Starting a Toastmaster Club” As you have traversed through your Toastmaster journey, don’t you wish you share your experience with the rest of the world? YOU CAN!!! There is no secret to starting a Toastmaster club. Learn the steps, tips and tricks to engaging communicators and leaders around you to join our journey. Look for potential clubs around you. Encourage the potential you see in your co-workers, fellow students, and even the baristas in the drive-thru’s. Come to our session even if you are a seasoned Club builder! Tell everyone – because it is no secret! |

Business Meeting Proxy
Either the club president or vice president education of any member club may designate, in writing, any active individual member of the club to act as a proxy for him or her at any district council meeting. In the event one of those officers is not in attendance at the meeting and has not designated, in writing, an active individual member of the club to act as his or her proxy at such meeting, the officer or proxyholder in attendance shall be deemed to hold the proxy of the other and may therefore cast two votes at such meeting. The intent of this provision is to assure that every club will be represented by two votes. No other proxies shall be valid at a district council meeting. A written proxy, to be valid at a district council meeting, must contain all the elements set forth in Toastmasters International policy and must be delivered personally, by mail, by fax, by e-mail, by electronic transmission, or by other reasonable means to the club member who will hold the proxy. The proxy holder must present the proxy in paper form (i.e., print out an e-mail) to the credentials desk. If the proxy does not bear a handwritten signature, it must have the typed name of the club officer(s) giving the proxy or some other indication that the club officer(s) authorized the proxy to be given. A proxy that complies with these requirements shall be treated as valid so long as the credentials desk has no reason to believe that the proxy was not authorized. A proxy holder cannot transfer or assign a proxy to someone else. A valid proxy delivered to the proxy holder is revoked only if the club officer who gave the proxy takes one of the following subsequent actions: he or she destroys the proxy, cancels the proxy in writing, issues another proxy authorized at a later date, or actually attends the district council meeting.
