The Oklahoma Humanities Council named a District 23 Toastmaster as their recipient for the 2011 Public Humanities Award.

Dr. Sara Richter, a four year member of Toastmasters who has achieved the Advanced Communicator Bronze designation while attending Guymon Toastmasters in Guymon, OK, received the humanities award for her considerable work in providing public programming across the state of Oklahoma and especially in her region of the Oklahoma Panhandle.

She has taught at Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, OK, since 1985 and is currently the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and a Professor of English.  In addition to her work at the university, she maintains an active speaking engagement schedule as she gives literary and historical programs at local, regional, national, and international conferences on various topics like Depression-era women, women of the Santa Fe and Oregon trails, Christmases on the Plains, the Hominy Indians Native American football team, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and women of the western gold fields. In addition, she speaks on behalf of the Kansas Humanities Council and the Oklahoma Humanities Council and those two entities’ book discussion programs. She is also a member of the Kansas Humanities Council Speakers Bureau.
